“The platform for sustainable farming by environmental control by utilizing microbial functions”

    Abstract:
In order to mitigate the effects of global population growth, climate change, weather disasters, and changes in dietary habits on agricultural production, there is a need to build a sustainable production technology platform. As part of Moonshot Research and Development Program 5: Creation of the industry that enables sustainable global food supply by exploiting unused biological resources by 2050, our project aims to construct a soil that maximizes the functions of soil microorganisms, targeting soybean which could be the core of future foodstuffs. We also aim to analyze the interrelationships between plants and microorganisms and evaluate soil health with a new index indicator by combining state-of-the-art technologies including single-cell genomics and confocal Raman microscopy.
Our project includes five diverse groups:
    1 - Soil microbiome atlas,
    2 - Crop (soybean),
3 - Artificial weather chamber construction,
    4 - Social science, and
5 - Network analysis and culture management.
Each group will work together to achieve the goal for creating a sustainable food supply industry.
