Crop Functional Genomics
The division of Crop Functional Genomics is part of the Institute of Plant Sciences and Resource Conservation (INRES).
Our research focus is the genetic and genomic dissection of maize and barley root development. To this end, we clone and characterize genes controlling root architecture and we investigate the molecular mechanisms of heterosis manifestation. Moreover, we are interested in how root systems react to abiotic stress such as drought or cold and how they interact with the rhizosphere.
Prof. Zhongtao Jia from China Agricultural University (CAU) on "Hormonal regulation of root nitrogen foraging responses in plants". Prof. Jia did his postdoc with Prof. Nicolaus von Wirén in Leibniz-Institute of Plant Genetics and Crop Plant Research (IPK Gatersleben, Germany). He is mainly interested on molecular mechanisms underlying nitrogen signaling on root development. His research topics include the identification of molecular regulators and genetic allelic variants determining nutrient use efficiency in the aspect of root development and nutrient acquisition.
The 5th INRES - Minisymposium (INRES Day) will take place on August 24 on the Campus Poppelsdorf in the lecture hall center "CP1-HSZ", Endenicher Allee 19C, 53115 Bonn, Germany.
Marcel Baer and Li Guo have received their PhD certificates at the promotion ceremony of the Faculty of Agriculture.
Congratulations to Li for receiving the faculty prize for the best thesis in plant science and the Chinese government award for outstanding self-financed students abroad for her PhD work.
