DESCRIPTION:The Cretaceous Period (145-66 Ma) was a critical time for the
evolution and diversity of land\nplants. During this time angiosperms expe
rienced their initial radiation and as a result terrestrial\necosystems be
gan to resemble modern ones as many forests transitioned from gymnosperm\n
dominated to angiosperm dominated. This further resulted in diversificatio
n events in bryophytes\nand ferns while conifers and other gymnosperms are
believed to have experienced dramatic\nturnovers. My research program foc
uses on furthering our understanding of this evolutionary\nevent by recove
ring and characterizing Late Cretaceous (100-66 Ma) fossils that are three
\ndimensionally-preserved\, down to the cellular level\, from undersampled
regions including the\nwestern coast of North America and western Antarct
ica. Such fossils are providing unparalled\ndetails in the systematics\, p
hylogenetic diversification\, and life history biology of land plants\ndur
 ing the Cretaceous.
