DESCRIPTION:Plant primary metabolism holds the key to an efficient defence
 response against microbial pathogens in leaves. Using the interaction of A
 rabidopsis and the fungal hemibiotrophColletotrichum higginsianumas a mode
 l system\, I will showcase how primary metabolism provides fuel and signal
 s to combat fungal colonization. Selected examples will be employed to hig
 hlight that carbohydrate availability\, redox poise as well as organellar 
 ROS influence key processes like the activation of phytoalexin biosynthesi
 s and salicylic acid-triggered defenceresponses.
