Last month, our team leader Anna Cord and postdoc Stephanie Roilo led a 6-day excursion to the Swedish island of Ven, located in the Öresund strait. Here, students from the masters programme in Nature Conservation and Landscape Ecology carried out the fieldwork and data collection for their own research project, part of the compulsory course "Orientierungsprojekt". The students carried out vegetation surveys in the grassland areas found along the cliffs of the island, which are protected under the Natura 2000 protected areas' network. They also performed surveys with tourists visiting the island, as well as extended interviews with local stakeholders to investigate how these protected areas and their management are perceived by visitors and residents of the island. We had lots of fun on the island and thank everyone who supported us on-site!
