You will learn the fundamentals of landscape planning, explore essential concepts and methods of landscape ecology and analysis, engage with scientific literature, and connect theory with practice through real-world examples focused on selected landscape planning case studies.

Advanced Scientific Writing and Communication (summer & Winter terms)
You will learn scientific reading, presentation and proposal writing skills, critically analyze high-profile research papers, develop and defend your own research proposal, and participate in peer review discussions. Thematic groups offered by our team have focused on “Agricultural landscapes for biodiversity and people” and “Synergies between Digital Agriculture and biodiversity monitoring for sustainable farming”.

Plant Ecology (Summer term)
You will learn to apply key concepts of plant ecology, understand how abiotic and biotic factors and human activities shape plant distributions, explain plant adaptations to environmental stressors, and understand the complexity of ecosystem interactions.

Spatial ecology and conservation biology
You will learn the basic principles of conservation biology, with a special focus on spatially-explicit applications in the management of natural resources. The course combines theory, debates on recent scientific papers, and practical sessions with spatial modelling exercises in R.

Orientation project
In this compulsory course, students collaborate in small groups to design and carry out their own research project. Our team offers supervision and access to a unique study site on the island of Ven, Sweden.
