CSCP
The place where genetics meets robotics
The planned Center for Sustainable Crop Production (CSCP) will provide the cutting-edge research infrastructure needed to meet one of the defining challenges of the 21st century: securing food and renewable resources for a growing world population while protecting biodiversity, soil health, water quality, and the climate.
The CSCP research building will unite more than 4,000 m² of high-tech facilities , including climate chambers for controlled stress experiments, advanced sensor and robotics laboratories, and molecular breeding platforms. This unique environment will enable scientists to explore the future of agriculture at the interface of robotics, artificial intelligence and plant genetics.
By integrating state-of-the-art infrastructure with interdisciplinary expertise, the CSCP will:
•Develop AI-driven robotics and sensing systems to enable precision farming, early disease detection, and significant reductions in pesticide and fertilizer use.
•Advance non-invasive plant diagnostics, linking molecular stress markers with field-based sensor data to transform real-time crop monitoring.
•Create new breeding strategies for resilient and resource-efficient crops, tailored to sustainable farming systems and mixed cultures.
•Foster collaboration across disciplines and sectors, ensuring knowledge transfer to industry and practice.

The CSCP will elevate Bonn’s role as a global leader in sustainable crop research. The new building will not only bring together researchers from robotics, data science, plant biology, and soil sciences but also provide the technical infrastructure essential for pioneering breakthroughs.
By enabling this research hub, the CSCP building will set new standards for knowledge-based, sustainable agriculture and make a decisive contribution to future-proof crop production.
