Wetlands in East Africa
In this project, group members study the wetland in East Africa. We assess resource dynamics and fluxes, opportunities for agricultural intensification with emphasis on rice, and aspects of vegetation ecology. Together with African partners, we have evaluated agronomic options based on ecological intensification, while considering nature protection and ecosystem services. Simulation models are being used for regionally extrapolating future wetland uses and testing possible scenarios for a sustainable use of future wetlands.
