This lecture will present my vision for transdisciplinary decision-support science. I will argue that tackling the twin challenges of food security and environmental sustainability requires new frameworks that move beyond top-down optimization. By combining probabilistic models with participatory design, we can create tools that are not only scientifically robust but also legitimate and actionable for the communities and policymakers who need them most. The talk will draw on examples from agroecology, water management, and climate adaptation to illustrate this next-generation approach.
